The Project
Norwich Research Park is a leading science and innovation hub that needed a funding report to support a bid for campus expansion.
The document had to communicate both credibility and ambition to government agencies and private investors. It needed to present rigorous research and economic data while also expressing the future potential of the campus as a centre for science, innovation, and growth.
The design approach had to feel as specific as the subject matter: intelligent, evidence-based, and visually distinct from a conventional corporate report.
The Thinking
The strongest design decision was allowing the subject matter to shape the visual direction.
Rather than applying a generic report aesthetic to scientific content, I drew inspiration from cellular and biological structures — the kinds of systems connected to the research taking place at Norwich Research Park. This became the foundation for a graphic language that felt specific, contemporary, and purposeful rather than decorative.
Custom infographics and data visualizations were developed to support the funding narrative, helping complex research, economic, and growth-related information feel more structured and easier to interpret. The cellular-inspired elements gave the report a recognizable visual identity while reinforcing the scientific context of the organization.
This approach did more than create visual interest. It signalled that the design understood the environment it was representing, which helped strengthen the credibility of the case being made to evaluators, agencies, and investors.
